Minimalist Titanium Folding Knife
This custom folding knife was designed as a personal exploration of minimalist mechanical product design. The focus was on delivering a clean, elegant form with robust materials and tight mechanical tolerances, resulting in a sleek and functional design.
Design Intent:
The knife was developed to showcase a sleek, minimal aesthetic with no visual clutter. Every surface and transition was carefully modeled to achieve a modern, refined silhouette while maintaining mechanical integrity and user comfort.
Materials & Construction:
Handle + Hardware: Grade 5 Titanium (Ti-6Al-4V)
Blade: CPM S30V stainless steel
Manufacturing Considerations:
To streamline machining of the titanium handles, I designed custom fixtures to secure raw stock during both inside and outside milling operations. The fixture design prioritized repeatability, rigidity, and modularity to accommodate the full machining cycle with a machine equipped with an ATC, allowing the operator to prep the next batch of stock during the machining cycle.
